Dr. Michelle Owens operating the daVinci System during a hysterectomy surgery.
The daVinci® Surgical System is a surgical platform that was approved by the (FDA) in 2000 and was designed to facilitate complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach. (Minimally invasive surgery may cause less pain, scarring, and damage to healthy tissue, and the patient may have a faster recovery than with traditional surgery.)
Though it is often called a "robot" the daVinci System cannot act on its own. All surgeries are actually performed 100% by one of our physicians (Dr. Owens or Dr. Gonzalez) controlling the mechanisms from the console.
With daVinci®, a surgeon can perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions and unmatched precision. As a result, patients may get back to their lives faster without the usual recovery following major surgery.
• Lower Complication Rate
•Shorter Hospital Stay
• Less Blood Loss & Likelihood for Transfusion
• Lower Hospital Admission Rate
daVinci system procedures are performed at both Lafayette General Medical Center and Acadia General Hospital for urology and gynecology procedures—mainly for:
• Hysterectomy Procedures
• Endometriosis Diagnosis and Removal
• Fibroids Diagnosis and Removal
• Drainage of Cysts
• Infertility Diagnosis
If you are considering a hysterectomy, we would love to have a conversation with you about the benefits of having one via a daVinci surgery.
